GENERAL INFORMATION
AMT produced a line of freight cars starting in 1952. They had plastic bodies mounted on cast aluminum frames and had cast metal trucks with Lift-a-Matic couplers. There were nineteen of them, plus five cabooses. Except for the cabooses, the catalog numbers were in series by type of car. Cabooses were made in AT&SF, PRR, NYC, Southern, and C&O road names. All the stock, refrigerator, box, and merchandise cars were full O scale 40 foot models. Paint schemes were prototypical. KMT continued production of these cars, some with no changes, others with minor changes to decoration, and added many more road names. Year later, Andy Kriswalus purchased the molds and produced an extensive line with his own KMT boxes. His cars have lighter stamped frames but still used the AMT/KMT trucks and couplers. The molds subsequently moved on to Williams and Williams by Bachman and continue to be produced, although with current trucks and couplers, rather than the AMT/KMT parts.
